Entering this season, Jordan “Jordi” Miles was tasked to be the new leader of the High Point Panthers after the graduations of Abby Hormes and Mena Loescher in recent years.

For a Panthers program that has experienced 10 double-digit winning seasons in the 13 they have been a program, she had big shoes to fill. And she has.

Miles is currently the team’s leading scorer with 38 goals on the season after only having 30 combined in her first two years. This includes a hat trick against North Carolina and four goals against Duke.

For the first time in recent years, the Panthers’ offensive leader has been more of a catch-and-shoot type of player. Hormes and Loescher both ran up and down the field in transition, capitalizing on defenses not being set.

“I think my strengths are I work hard off-ball mainly, and I think I am a good cutter. I like to catch the ball and finish it. I am tall so that is where I find a lot of my success,” Miles said.

While really good off the ball, Miles has gotten to dodge a lot more this season, which she has found success in.

When one becomes a leader for a Division One program, the responsibilities increase. Miles has no complaints.

She said the following about stepping up to the plate and being that team leader.

“I have loved taking on this role, and I think I have been a lot more vocal and just helping guide and show my teammates if they have questions.”

Miles has gone from the underclassman looking for advice to the one her younger teammates now look to.

“I always went to Mena… I would just ask her questions, even if they sounded dumb, because I just wanted to make sure I knew the plays and wouldn’t get in the way,” she said.

Miles always looks to improve on her game. Handling pressure is an aspect of lacrosse that she focuses on. She is also learning the techniques of taking the draw which she has only done a limited amount of times.

This season, Miles has controlled the draw 61 times compared to last season when she had just 13 controls.

The Davidsonville, Md., native has a family full of lacrosse players. Her father, Glen Miles, played at the United States Naval Academy and is in the USA Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Miles stated the following about what it means to play a sport where her father is highly touted.

“It’s awesome. My dad has been someone who my sisters and I look up to since we were little, and lacrosse has been a huge part of our life. It really connects my family together, and he has just been super supportive,” she said.

Miles loves learning from her dad and talking to him before and after games. The same goes for her sisters, one of whom is a standout in the Ivy League.

Niki Miles plays at the University of Pennsylvania, and Taylor Miles will follow in her father’s footsteps and play at Navy. When asked if her sister Niki gives her a shoulder to lean on, Miles stated that the two have a very close relationship.

“My older sister has always been a role model to me on and off the field my whole life. So it’s awesome to see her success at the college level, and it’s something that’s definitely inspired me coming in. I am two grades lower than her, and I’ve just seen the work she puts in, and I love seeing her succeed.”

While grateful for her family, she is the same for her coaches and teammates at High Point. Miles does not take anything for granted.

I think our team is very special and the culture here is amazing, and I am really happy to be a part of it. And with everything going on with Coach Boswell, I am just blessed to have her as a leader and someone who is inspiring us throughout the season. And just excited to see how far this team goes in conference play and in postseason,” Miles said.

Jordan Miles is what any team in the country wants as the face of the program. A fiery personality who always wants to improve her craft. Miles is now at the helm for the Panthers and looks to bring the squad to the promise land.
