Athletes Unlimited attacker Izzy McMahon recently launched her own training business, IM Training, which is focused on training and educating young athletes to reach their full potential.

McMahon first started coaching during her time at the University of Southern California by providing training sessions in her spare time, while balancing a full time student-athlete schedule.

“Before SC, I always saw myself being some kind of coach, whether it was in sports training, sports performance, lacrosse, whatever it might be. I just really had a passion for coaching,” said McMahon.

Her love of coaching started during her training sessions at West Point, where McMahon spent her freshman year of college playing both basketball and lacrosse.

While there she was introduced to weightlifting, speed development, and sport specific training. Realizing she was good at training, and enjoying every aspect of it, she immediately knew what she wanted to do in the future.

Through the guidance of Danny van Dijk, former strength and conditioning coach at USC, McMahon was able to learn more about programming workouts and understanding the implications of exercises that coordinated with specific sports performance results.

“I realize that I want to do this even more because now I not only want to do it for myself, but I also want to do it for the people that have helped me and guided me towards this,” said McMahon.

After seeing the translation of training and recovery to great improvements on the field as a collegiate and pro athlete first-hand, McMahon wants to ensure that her athletes understand how crucial those aspects are to sports performance and how they can have a positive impact on mental health.

“I really want to implement, especially for younger kids, knowing when to listen to your body,” she said.

Under her partnership with the Togethership, a sports academy in California, and her collaborations with speed performance coach, Les Spellman, McMahon’s goals for her business are to make an impact on the sport of lacrosse and unlock the potential of sports training in athletes.

“I want to be able to come in and make a kid really special and be able to see the growth, the development, and the results that they want and what they’re looking for.”
