Richmond Head Coach Allison Kwolek announced Wednesday that Madison Carter will be joining the coaching staff as an assistant coach. She will be working with the attack and draw control units for the Spiders.

“Madison’s expertise at the draw and her savviness on offense will be a great asset to our program and I’m eager for our players to begin working with her,” said Kwolek.

Carter will be staying in the south after spending a year as an assistant with Mercer University where she was part of the Bears’ third straight NCAA Tournament appearance.

Just two years removed from her playing days, Carter was a standout player during her time with Penn State. She made program history in 2016 when she was named the BIG Ten Freshman of the Year.

She went on to receive IWLCA All-American honors, earn a spot on the All-BIG Ten Team and IWLCA All-Region Team while being selected to the Tewaaraton Award watch list multiple times.

Carter’s play on the field helped lead the Nittany Lions to three NCAA Tournament berths, as well as two Final Four appearances.

During her time at Penn State, Carter’s coaching career began as an assistant coach for Integrity Lacrosse Club in Davidsonville, Md. In this position, she put together game strategies, performance principles and instructed new players, while also coordinating tournament travel plans.

Now after just one year as an assistant coach at the college level, Carter heads to a Richmond program that is less than two years removed from holding a top 15 ranking in the IWLCA polls.

“I am so excited to join the Richmond Women’s Lacrosse program!” said Carter. “I cannot wait to get started.”
